Gandhi's Early Life
Mohandas Gandhi was on the 2nd of November, 1869. Raised in an upper class family. Gandhi loved reading books, once he read the story of Shravana. Shravana used to carry his old and blind parents in two baskets slung on a bamboo yoke. Mohan was deeply touched by his devotion to his old parents. He resolved to be like Shravana and serve his parents. Gandhi was encouraged by his parents to become a lawyer. As a result, when he was 19 years old he went to London, England to attend the University College London in order to study law. Three years later he returned to India and tried to start his own law practice. The attempt was unsuccessful so he moved to South Africa and became an Indian law firm where he supported the local Indian community's struggle for civil rights. Little did he know, moving to South Africa was going to be the start of his Civil Rights Journey. Returning to India in 1915, he carried over his desire to improve the state of the lower classes.
